Team Blue,
You know, you really do impress me. Close to 100 people have come out to the patch in the last three weeks - five to fifteen blueberry enthusiasts reliably picking 10 to 25 pounds each day. A berry patch has never gotten such judicious and diligent care and attention. Today, I was treated to a visual superposition of all your visits, as fifty people grazed their way through the berry patch during our field day with the Uplands watershed group. And to think, you are twice that!
So, where do we stand? Well, the rain rained indeed, and the irrigation drips on. Rows 2, 4, and 5 have a lot of berries yet to blue up, and we are keeping pace picking. The picking is fairly light at the moment, but by the weekend and into next week I foresee many one-to-five pound picking slips coming in.
How much longer will we go? I really have no idea. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some pounds yet to pick on the first of August… but that’s rank conjecture from a well informed - and partially misinformed - amateur, mixed in with a dose of romantic hope. Take it for what you will.
Go the distance,
Twin Crix
P.S. I was truly touched by the turnout for the canceled-at-the-last-minute-because-11-to-2-was-a-terrible-idea-on-such-a-hot-and-smoky-day weeding party. I think that, like, 6-8pm is a more pleasant time. How about Sunday?
