The Final Countdown

07/31/2023

Team Blue,

A belated Happy National Blueberry Month to all who celebrate.

As said National Month winds to a close, so too do the berries of our lives. If you've been meaning to get out into the patch, now is your last chance! Row 4 (Rubel) continues to pump out a steady stream of berries on its elegant stems, and there are berries to be found on plants up and down most rows. Take yourself on a thorough walk in the berry patch and you will be able to find them. There's also the three random off-type plants (mislabeled at the nursery?) that are clearly a much later ripening variety than the rest of their row. Bonus points if you pick those berries!

I also want to draw your attention and extend an invitation to an event we're hosting on the farm on August 10th through the Lowery Creek Watershed Initiative's "Evenings Afield" series. We'll meet at the barn at 6:00pm, hear 0.1% of what Gary Zimmer knows about agriculture and soil health, and then hear from me about grafting fruit trees, blueberries, and more. We'll take a walk to the blueberry patch and then to the Back Four, the orchard that we're establishing. If I had to guess, I would say it will be a delightful time. I hope you'll join us. Register at the link below!

Thank you again for all you've done for these berries. The bushes salute you!
